Union credits the Mayor with expanding opportunity for hotel and food workers
BOSTON – June 17, 2017 – The Boston-area hotel and food workers union, UNITE HERE Local 26, today announced they are endorsing Mayor Martin J. Walsh. The nearly 10,000-member union is one of the most diverse and politically powerful organizations in the City of Boston. The announcement occurred at a barbecue organized by the hundreds of dining workers at Northeastern University who are represented by Local 26.
“Mayor Walsh has proven his dedication to our neighborhoods,” said Local 26 President Brian Lang. “Our members are fighting hard to transform hospitality jobs into careers they can raise a family on. Marty has stood with us at the hotel and culinary training centers in Chinatown and Dudley Square. He has celebrated with graduates of the Mel King Empowerment program. There’s one clear choice for our members.”
“I am honored to receive support from the hardworking women and men of UNITE HERE Local 26. From job creation to business expansion, their value and role in Boston’s success continues to move our city forward. I look forward to continuing these efforts.” said Mayor Walsh.
